Highlight

Mukua, the fruit of the baobab

Imbondeiro / Embondeiro (Baobab — Adansonia digitata)

Mukua is the fruit of the baobab, the emblematic tree of the African savannah and a living symbol of Angola. Inside its woody, oval shell lies a naturally dry white pulp, surrounded by reddish fibres and seeds, which is easily milled into a fine flour with a citrus flavour and delicate aroma.

It is a 100% African fruit, harvested from centuries-old wild trees that need neither irrigation nor fertilisers. Estrela da Kidixi adds value to this community harvest through sorting, controlled drying and in-house packing, ensuring traceability and export standard.

Recognised as a superfood, Mukua is one of the richest plant sources of vitamin C, with high levels of prebiotic fibre, calcium, potassium, magnesium and antioxidants — a nutritional profile that places it among the most sought-after African ingredients on international markets.

For African communities, the baobab means food, traditional medicine, shade and cultural memory. Collecting and processing Mukua generates sustainable income for rural families, especially women, connecting Angolan tradition to a modern, responsible value chain.
